Gwyn Beynon Gwyn Beynon is a well-known and respected performer, teacher and instrumental conductor in southwestern Ontario. Born in Ingersoll, Ontario, he began his musical studies on piano and studied trumpet with James Ford. During his high school years, he was one the youngest players to be accepted into the National Youth Orchestra where he played with some of Canada’s finest young musicians under the direction He holds graduate and undergraduate degrees from the University of Western Ontario in music, education, and educational administration and is frequently called upon as a guest conductor, clinician and adjudicator for various music programs and festivals across Ontario. Gwyn was the recipient of the Gold Medal for his class at Western. Gwyn was a teacher, department head, curriculum developer, vice principal and principal with the Thames Valley District School Board, where he championed music education and directed high school symphonic bands that won awards nationally and internationally. He taught Instrumental Music for the University of Western Ontario, Faculty of Education and was an associate teacher for music teachers for many years. As a music educator, he was responsible for a variety of outstanding music programs at all levels of the school system. Gwyn has extensive background in curriculum development for the arts and has served as Director of the Ontario Ministry of Education Student Leadership Course at Lake Couchiching. Besides conducting and adjudicating, Gwyn continues to be an active performer, playing trumpet with Brassroots, the London Jazz Orchestra, Prime Time Big Band and the Phil Murphy Jazz Band.
